Together with the City of Rio de Janeiro, C40 is hosting Mayors of C40 Cities from around the world for a day-long event to highlight the actions local governments are taking to promote sustainable development in the urban environment.

A series of roundtable discussions will bring C40 Mayors together with technical experts to demonstrate how cities have adopted meaningful climate change policies and to evidence even greater commitment to our goals – further underscoring the clear link between cities’ climate actions and the larger global objectives of sustainable communities and climate resilience.

With global leadership in attendance, C40 Chair Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Mayor Eduardo Paes of Rio de Janeiro, and other C40 Mayors will make an environmental commitment on behalf of C40 cities. In addition, this event will feature a united call by cities to national governments and international organizations to work more collaboratively with cities to foster action at the local level.

Participation is by invitation only. For more information, please send queries to contact@c40cities.org.

Global Energy Basel – The Sustainable Infrastructure Financing Summit

Global Energy Basel – The Sustainable Infrastructure Financing Summit

21-22 February 2012

Basel, Switzerland

The Global Energy Basel (GEB) Summit brings together leaders from local governments, investment and financing communities, and infrastructure solution providers to drive large-scale investment in urban infrastructure projects that are both environmentally sustainable and economically feasible. Climate impacts already confronting global cities make infrastructure investment today critical to securing a sustainable future.

At this year’s Summit, C40 will launch a new effort to support C40 Cities interested in collaborating on an ongoing basis to identify financing solutions; two closed-door sessions will be dedicated exclusively to this effort, in which Cities will share good practice, policies and first-hand experience for the purpose of mutual learning. A further two sessions will give C40 City leaders from Europe, Africa and Latin America an opportunity to present innovative projects to a broader audience of infrastructure investors and other capital providers.

For more information and to register for the event, please visit the Global Energy Basel conference website.

Climate Positive Learning Program -- Second Phase

Climate Positive Learning Program -- Second Phase

26-28 March, 2012

Melbourne, Australia

The second phase of the Climate Positive Learning Program is a three day program, comprising two dedicated days exclusive to the Climate Positive Development Program Development Partners, and a third day where Development Partners will attend joint sessions with city officials at the C40 Sustainable Communities Workshop. These two workshops are being co-located to build stronger interaction and collaboration between the two groups.

The first phase of the Learning Program, hosted by Stockholm Royal Seaport Innovation 27-29 September 2011, focused on developing baseline carbon emissions profiles, and hearing about technical solutions from experts and through site visits in Stockholm.  This second phase will focus on implementation of Climate Positive deliverables. Particular emphasis will be placed on the creation and application of Climate Positive Roadmaps, the pragmatic challenges that projects are facing in their developments, and the solutions that they have found as they strive to achieve a Climate Positive outcome.

In this setting, ample opportunity will be provided for developers to engage and interact with their counterparts from across the Climate Positive Development program. The first two days of the Learning Program will focus exclusively on the Development Partners participating in the program. On the third day of the workshop, the scope of discussion will expand to include participants in the C40 Cities Sustainable Communities workshop. The joint session will explore the interplay of sustainable districts and policy issues in working sessions with Climate Positive Development Partners, key stakeholders, and government policy makers.
